RENO, Nev. (June 24, 2021) – The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) has allocated up to $500,000 to help special events in Reno Tahoe, from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.
“Reno Tahoe is known for our impressive lineup of special events, from arts and culture to sports and culinary events,” said RSCVA President and CEO Charles Harris. “Special events are visible and impactful to this destination, and it’s critical to support legacy events of great notoriety, as well as emerging events that can help us create new visitors for future growth.”
The Special Events Partnership Funding program is intended for annual events which aim to draw attendees from outside the Reno Tahoe area. Events primarily use these funds to generate additional visitation and exposure for Northern Nevada by executing advertising campaigns and various marketing programs. To qualify for partnership funding, events must exhibit a propensity to positively impact the community by generating room nights at Washoe County hotels, growing destination awareness and inspiring repeat visitation.
The fiscal year 2021/2022 Special Event Partnership Funding program allocates $433,500 to 29 events, awarding 93.5% of all applicants, and maintains $66,500 in a marketing opportunity fund to potentially support new events or special programs that may arise during the fiscal year. The RSCVA has awarded more than $4 million to regional special events, since the program was formalized in 2007.
“The RSCVA is proud to support these important local events that attract interest and the action of visitation, and we’re thrilled to welcome our visitors back to special events season in Reno Tahoe,” said Harris.
Events pages on VisitRenoTahoe.com drive a considerable amount of traffic, and typically rank in the Top 5 most visited pages year-round. Event partner referrals on VisitRenoTahoe.com, both through organic search and overall, more than doubled from April to May of this year, indicating that potential visitors are once again exploring special events in Reno Tahoe.
