RENO, Nev. (December 5, 2024) – The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) is excited to announce the grand opening of Nevada’s first and only indoor track at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center (RSCC) on December 5. This state-of-the-art facility will offer athletes a world-class venue for competition and training, establishing Reno Tahoe as a premier destination for Track & Field.

The facility features a Mondo-manufactured track with a 12-degree fixed-bank oval and six 42-inch-wide lanes, as well as an eight-lane sprint track for sprints and hurdles. Designed to meet World Athletics certification, the indoor track will be eligible to host a range of competitions, including NCAA, USA Track & Field, AAU and youth meets. This certification places Reno among an elite group of cities with world-class indoor track facilities, becoming only the third of its kind on the West Coast capable of hosting high-level events.

“We’re thrilled to welcome athletes, coaches, and spectators from across the nation to experience the world-class Reno Tahoe Indoor Track,” said Reno Tahoe President and CEO Mike Larragueta. “This facility builds on the success of the destination’s development as a leader in sports tourism, providing additional indoor opportunities throughout the winter season, December through March.”

In addition to the world-class track, the indoor facility at the RSCC includes:

  • Eight 48-inch-wide sprint lanes on the infield, with crash pads for deceleration
  • Dual areas for high jump, long jump, triple jump and pole vault on the infield
  • A designated shot put and weight throw area, equipped with safety netting
  • Seating for up to 1,200 spectators, with expandable options
  • World Athletics-certified equipment by UCS, a Nevada-based company
  • Mondo rubber surfaces throughout, including a warmup area and clerking space

The Convention Center’s convenient location—just minutes from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport and close to thousands of hotel rooms—makes it ideal for hosting teams and attendees from around the country.

The Reno Tahoe Indoor Track debuts with the Silver State Invitational & Multis/Alumni Event, running from Dec. 5–7. Tickets are $10 per person, per day. Kids under seven years old are free. This event will be followed by the Reno Tahoe Athletics Winter Track & Field Festival (Dec. 14–15) and the USATF Pacific Holiday Invitational (Dec. 27–29). The venue’s annual schedule is expected to include high-profile collegiate meets in partnership with the University of Nevada, further enhancing Reno Tahoe as a hub for collegiate sports.

With major events planned throughout the season, the indoor track is projected to attract thousands of athletes, fans and officials, contributing to the local economy by boosting hotel occupancy, restaurant traffic and business for local retailers.
