RENO, Nev. (December 18, 2024) – Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) celebrates four award wins in top meetings industry publications. The CVB has been honored as one of the Best West CVB/DMOs in the 2024 Best of Meetings Today Awards and as a top CVB in the Smart Meetings 2024 Platinum Choice Awards, President and CEO Mike Larragueta was awarded for his industry efforts in the Smart Meetings’ 2024 Catalyst Awards, and the Reno-Sparks Convention Center (RSCC) as a finalist for the Best Convention Center (U.S.) in the Skift Meetings Awards 2024. These prestigious awards come on the heels of the destination’s highest Taxable Room Revenue ever recorded for a single month in Washoe County in August 2024. The CVB also announces it will host of the 71st biennial National Association of Postal Supervisors (NAPS) National Convention, held at the Grand Sierra Resort, August 9-19, 2028.

The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority’s (RSCVA) recognition in the Best Of Meetings Today Awards celebrates the destination’s excellence in providing meetings and events planners with the resources and opportunities they need to host a successful event. Voted on by the industry’s top meeting professionals, the winners are judged against stringent criteria measuring the overall service provided to planners.
Mike Larragueta was recently honored in Smart Meetings’ 2024 Catalyst Awards. The awards serve to recognize exceptional destination leaders who are making strides to elevate the meetings industry. Larragueta was awarded the “Amplitude Award,” highlighting him as a leader who is raising the standard for excellence less than a year into his CEO tenure. The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) was also recognized in Smart Meetings’ 2024 Platinum Choice Awards which celebrates extraordinary venues and destinations that demonstrate a commitment to excellence by exceeding expectations and anticipating attendee needs.
For the second consecutive year, the Reno-Sparks Convention Center was honored as a finalist in the Best Convention Center (U.S.) category in the Skift Meetings Awards. This award recognizes and celebrates the business events industry’s most respected suppliers who are setting the standard for excellence through their understanding of planner needs, consistent delivery of exceptional service, and extraordinary offerings. With nearly 130 submissions, the RSCC was selected among 75 other competitors as a finalist.
The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) released transient lodging and room tax statistics showing August’s total of $55,845,967 as the highest Taxable Room Revenue ever recorded for a single month in Washoe County. Four of the top five revenue-producing months in Northern Nevada have come in the last 15 months. In August 2024, Cash Occupied Rooms were up 5.2%, from 315,116 to 331,510, compared to August 2023. Taxable Room Revenue in Washoe County was up 4.2%, from $53,576,718 to $55,845,967, over that same time period, and Average Daily Rates (ADR) decreased 0.9%, from $170.02 to $168.46, demonstrating the continued growth of the destination.
Looking ahead, Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority recently announced the 71st biennial National Association of Postal Supervisors (NAPS) National Convention will be held at the Grand Sierra Resort, August 9-19, 2028. More than 1,300 delegates and guests from across the country will converge in Northern Nevada to hear from United States Postal Service (USPS) and NAPS leadership.

GSR provides not only a venue for gatherings but also a full-service spa and numerous entertainment options. NAPS is excited to partner with the leadership and staff of GSR in making our 71st National Convention one to remember for our anticipated 1,300 delegates, family and vendors,” said National Association of Postal Supervisors National President Ivan Butts.
Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) also observed record-breaking numbers. The airport experienced its busiest summer in 19 years with a 10% increase in overall passenger traffic. New and returning routes brought in an additional 90,000 new seats to the facility.
