1,500 club teams and 30,000 people expected to attend the tournament at Reno-Sparks Convention Center

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (April 3, 2025) – The Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) will host the 51st NCVA/No Dinx Far Westerns National Qualifier across three weekends in April at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center (RSCC) in Reno, Nev. More than 1,500 club teams from Northern California, Southern California, Texas, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and 10 other states will compete for a coveted spot in the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship. The tournament will take place over three weekends: April 4-6, April 11-13, and April 25-27.

The historic Junior Qualifier began as an adult qualifier in 1947 and transitioned into a Junior National Qualifier for the Northern California Region of USA Volleyball (USAV) in 1974. To accommodate the high volume of participants and ensure a smooth event experience, NCVA will continue to split the qualifier into three weekends, reducing congestion and improving hotel availability.

“For over half a century, the NCVA Far Western Qualifier has been a premier stage for young athletes to showcase their talent and compete at the highest level,” said Donna Donaghy, commissioner of the NCVA since 1994. “As we celebrate our 51st year, we continue our commitment to providing an elite and memorable competition experience, helping teams earn their place at the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship. We are proud to continue hosting this prestigious event in Reno, a city that has embraced the volleyball community and provided a fantastic atmosphere for competition.”

The Reno-Sparks Convention Center has been hosting Far Westerns for over 20 years, providing 68 courts simultaneously. Over 40,000 attendees are expected to make their way to Reno throughout the three weekends. Some of those attendees are expected to be college recruiters.

“Northern California Volleyball Association kicks off Northern Nevada’s spring sports season in impressive fashion,” said Reno Tahoe President and CEO Mike Larragueta. “Reno Tahoe’s decades-long partnership with NCVA continues to fill hotel rooms and support local restaurants and retailers, contributing more than $10 million to the local economy on an annual basis.”

Many of the NCVA’s partners will be setting up shop in Reno, providing players with the opportunity to showcase their skills. University Athlete will be sending a few college coaches to check out the Qualifier. Championship Combine will host a video combine during the first and last weekends, having the athletes run drills, and sharing the recorded drills with college coaches who were not able to make it to the tournament. And NCVA’s long-time partner, No Dinx will be setting up a shop selling clothing and swag with unique designs celebrating the event and anniversary, as well as supplying award shirts to teams who excel in the competition.
