RENO, Nev. (August 29, 2024) – The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) today announced a re-launch of its consumer-facing website, VisitRenoTahoe.com, featuring artificial intelligence (AI) travel planning technology, and myriad options for a customized user experience.
“Through our redesigned website, we’ll inspire the next generation of travelers to visit Reno Tahoe,” said Reno Tahoe President and CEO Mike Larragueta. “I’m grateful to our website agency partner KPS3, Matador Network and our staff for their innovative work to attract visitors and present new opportunities for our residents.”
In tandem with generative AI tools propelling the travel industry forward, Reno Tahoe has partnered with Matador Network, a leading travel and adventure company, to launch the Reno Tahoe Guide on GuideGeek, a personal AI-powered travel assistant that is connected through the site.
“The Reno Tahoe area has such a wide diversity of year-round activities – it’s the perfect destination to be an early adopter of AI,” said Matador Network CEO Ross Borden. “The Reno Tahoe Guide draws on extensive data from VisitRenoTahoe.com to help visitors plan just the right trip or expand their visit spontaneously, whether that’s adding a day on the slopes after an event in Reno or exploring entertainment and gaming after a beach day on the lake.”
The Reno Tahoe Guide uses a blend of OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology, real-time travel information, website content and human curation to answer questions and streamline trip planning for visitors. It allows users to ask open-ended questions and refine the responses through additional prompts to create itineraries, recommend dining, amenities and activities, and additional trip-planning suggestions. The AI-powered tool is available to visitors planning travel to the destination and travelers currently visiting Reno Tahoe, as well as locals looking for suggestions on things to do.
When travelers find themselves on the new VisitRenoTahoe.com, they are provided multiple ways to identify recreational interests and activity styles, which customizes their website experience in real time. This personalized experience is meant to help visitors more easily find the things that suit their vacation style, which inspires deeper consideration of the destination and drives more traffic to stakeholder and partner websites.
Website visitors can now create personalized experiences by navigating to season-specific content via the season icons on the top right corner of the page, or by completing a fun one-minute quiz that results in personalized itineraries and experiences throughout the site. The suggestions generated through the quiz align with visitor personas Reno Tahoe has identified through advertising research efforts: Family, Adventure, and Arts & Culture.
“Combining the RSCVA’s robust marketing capabilities with modern web technologies allowed us to build an advanced yet extremely human-centered website,” said KPS3 President and CEO Rob Gaedtke. “We are very proud of our continued partnership with the RSCVA in inspiring visitors to experience this amazing place we get to call home.”
The website integrates a visual marketing platform, CrowdRiff, to add even more imagery and personalization. This platform empowers travel and tourism brands to source, share, and display original user-generated content, creating custom galleries for different categories, pages, seasons, events and regions to bring even more photos and authenticity to the website.
The process to launch the new website began in late 2023 and included the development of a user-centric strategy, design that supports current marketing efforts and can scale over time, site architecture and content assessment, an image audit, building and testing of the personalized quiz, development and testing of technical aspects and functionality, as well as ongoing collaboration between Reno Tahoe’s agencies of record, KPS3 and BVK, to ensure brand consistency.
